Meet The Team
President
Jill Newby
I was born and brought up in Bucks and played at County Tennis Week for 22 years. I have been a member of Great Missenden LTC since 1959, serving as Ladies Captain and Social Secretary at various times. I was lucky enough to be accepted for the Ladies Doubles at Wimbledon in 1974. In my twenties and thirties, I played Squash for Wales and for the last twenty years I have played Real Tennis, representing Team GB in the Masters World Championships for the last 12 years, recently winning the individual Over 70 and Over 75 Doubles.
I trained and taught as a PE teacher for much of my life. During this time I was also assistant referee of the Bucks Junior Tournament for a number of years, refereed at the Great Missenden Tournament for 7 years and acted as secretary for the Great Missenden Tournament for 14 years.
It always gives me a great thrill to walk into a tennis club to see all the courts full, especially with juniors playing. A tennis club is a wonderful community, where members come together to share their love for the game, support one another, and create lasting friendships.
Chairman and Bucks Shield Representative
Stephen Biggs
I joined the Bucks LTA Management Committee in 2010, and have been Men’s Shield Secretary since 2013, responsible for the Summer 2-pair and 3-pair competitions. I’ve played at Princes Risborugh Tennis Club since my junior days and joined the club committee as a teenager in the 1980s... and 30 years later, I’m still there, currently as Secretary and Men’s Captain, but I’ve had various other roles over the years!
I inherited my love of tennis from my parents (my Dad was a keen player himself) and I enjoy being involved in the running of the game, and supporting our Bucks players at Summer and Winter Cups and County Closed.
I was honoured to be a volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics tennis event at Wimbledon, where my role was to escort players from the locker rooms to the courts and the press office. In 2019 I completed by own personal “Grand Slam” by attending the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Chair of Tournaments & Competitions Sub-Committee
Janet Jamieson
I have been a member of the management committee for over 10 years and I chair the Tournament and Competitions committee. I am the organiser of the National League for the county and the Secondary Schools’ National Tennis League. I am a Grade 3 referee and am involved in the planning of the County Closed plus other week long and day tournaments and competitions in the county. In addition I am a Level 3 coach working at my own club, Wooburn Park LTC where I am also the club secretary.
Chair of Fundraising
Graham Tallyn
Bucks tennis is in the blood having represented the County at Junior, Senior and Vets level as well as managed our Men’s County team for seven years from 2004. At that point I was ‘co-opted’ to join the Management Committee under Keith Dewick’s Chairmanship and many, many years later, I am still here!
My principal responsibility on the Committee these days is the hot topic of Sponsorship & Fundraising. I am also one of the MC Directors of Bucks Tennis Ltd which manages our Indoor Centre at Cressex.
My personal tennis journey has taken me around many clubs in the County – much to the distain of my colleagues - but following recent retirement I am now enjoying the quieter surrounds of rural Buckinghamshire and the Princes Risborough tennis club
LTA Councillor, Junior Team Coordinator & County Safeguarding Officer
Venetia Cottman
I have played tennis since I was 8 years old and have represented Bucks all through the age groups. My roles for Bucks are LTA Councillor, Junior Coordinator and Safeguarding Officer.
My one claim to fame is being hit by Roscoe Tanner‘s first serve while officiating on Centre Court at Wimbledon in 1979!
Treasurer
Joanna Hale
I'm one of the more recent recruits to the Management Committee, joining in 2022 and becoming Treasurer in early 2023.
My youthful tennis career at Great Missenden and University lapsed until I became a member of Little Chalfont Tennis Club when my children took up tennis. I usually play several times a week now. I have been involved at Little Chalfont Tennis Club in various roles for many years and am now beginning what is planned to be my last year as Chair.
My gift is not high performance but maximum involvement in tennis of all standards of players for health and enjoyment.
Padel Representative
Simon Reynolds
I have been a member of the committee for many years and am currently Area Rep for Clubs in the Central Area. I am a very active member of Chesham 1879 LTC and serve (with spin) on their Committee.
My favourite player is Roger Federer who I try to imitate - with disappointing effect.
Seniors Coordinator
David Kay
I am the Area Rep for clubs based in the South East of Bucks. I re-initiated the Veterans County Championships in 2020. This was a great success and I hope to build on this over the next few years.
I love playing tennis and represent my Club and Shropshire veteran's team. My family are fully involved in tennis and we travel to various European countries to compete in ITF events.
Awards Coordinator
Rob Clark
I first played Bucks Shield tennis in the late 1970s and bar a few years away at university I have been playing it ever since. Currently a member of Chesham Bois LTSC, I have previously been a member of several other clubs in the county, including GX Bull Lane and Great Missenden. I’ve always been involved in the organisational side of tennis, sitting on club committees and running teams at school, university and club level.
I am a sports writer by profession and wrote much of Chesham Bois’ Centenary history booklet in 2008.
Bucks Tennis Admin Manager
Anthony Heald
I've worked for Bucks Tennis since 2016 and am also a part-time coach at Bucks Indoor. I play at Princes Risborough LTC, where I've held several roles and have been a committee member. I'm a keen sportsman and love to give any sport a go, which has included American Football.
County Performance Officer
Jemima King
Bucks Tennis seems to be in my blood representing Bucks throughout the junior age groups and now captaining the Ladies' Senior Team. My fondest memories of competing for Bucks are winning the Summer County Week national titles in 2013 and 2014 for the first time in Bucks history.
My roles within the county are County Performance Officer, Junior County Coach and Ladies Captain. The CPO role covers managing county coaching and the coaching team, the Aspirantes and performance grant programme and the annual junior awards.
I coach at Halton Tennis Centre where I have been a member since I can remember!
